Day 1: Trusting God's Plan

Reading: Exodus 7:1-9

  • Devotional: In these verses, we witness God's call for Moses to trust Him fully, even when things don't go as expected. Moses's initial attempts to persuade Pharaoh failed, but God assures him that everything is happening according to His divine plan. This invites us to reflect on our own situations where outcomes don't align with our expectations. Are we willing to trust God's overarching plan, even when the immediate results disappoint us? This day, reflect on areas in your life where you need to surrender control and embrace God's promise, trusting that He is working behind the scenes.
Practical Application: Identify a situation today where you are feeling anxious or in control. Practice surrendering this to God through prayer, reminding yourself of His sovereignty.

Day 2: Full Commitment in Faith

Reading: Exodus 7:10-13

  • Devotional: Moses and Aaron stood before Pharaoh not just as men but as vessels of God's power. When Aaron's staff swallowed the magicians' staffs, it was a powerful symbol of God's supremacy. Often, we face moments when we need to decide whether we are fully committed to the journey of faith or holding back due to fear and uncertainty. Today, consider what it means to be "all in" for God. Are you presenting a half-hearted faith, or have you surrendered completely to His desires and commandments?
Practical Application: Take a step of faith today in an area you have been hesitant, trusting God to handle the details.

Day 3: God in the Midst of Darkness

Reading: Exodus 7:14-24

  • Devotional: The Nile turning to blood was emblematic of God demonstrating His power over the false gods of Egypt. Despite the darkness that the Egyptians encountered, God remained sovereign. This narrative challenges us to search for God's presence amid our own darkness. Life may present challenges and situations that feel overwhelming or insurmountable, but God's light dispels any darkness. Reflect on a current struggle or area of spiritual darkness in your life and invite God's light to shine into those spaces.
Practical Application: Spend time in prayer, specifically asking God to reveal His presence in your areas of struggle.

Day 4: The Illusion of False Gods

Reading: Exodus 7:25-8:19 (to see the continuation beyond Exodus 7:24 in the story of the plagues)

  • Devotional: In the current reading and throughout the plagues, multiples false gods of Egypt are shown to be powerless against the one true God. Similarly, we all have idols we might unknowingly worship—be it career, status, or material wealth. Spend today considering what "false gods" you might be serving and how you can refocus your worship and priorities to honor the true God.
Practical Application: Identify one idol in your life and commit to reducing its influence, replacing time spent on it with time spent in prayer or Scripture.

Day 5: Light Overcoming Darkness

Reading: John 8:12; 1 John 1:5-9

  • Devotional: Jesus proclaims He is the light of the world, a truth we see echoed in the story of Moses as God triumphs over the darkness of falsehood and evil. This calls us to walk in that light and share it with others. Consider how your life reflects the light of Jesus, and ponder an area where you might be letting darkness in. As carriers of His light, how can we shine brighter in our homes, workplaces, and communities?
Practical Application: Choose a tangible way to be a beacon of Christ's light to someone else today—offer encouragement, lend a hand, or share your testimony.

In each of these daily reflections, allow yourself to not only acknowledge God's presence and power but also to open your heart to His transformative work in your life, making steps toward a deeper faith and more complete trust in His divine purpose.
